Polygon Price (MATIC)

MATIC is used for a bunch of things within the Polygon ecosystem: paying transaction fees, staking and delegating to secure the network, providing liquidity, and participating in governance. You can also use MATIC to pay for smart contract executions and transaction fees on the Polygon network, plus earn rewards by staking.

Polygon uses a proof-of-stake (PoS) mechanism for consensus. Validators stake their MATIC tokens to validate transactions by creating blocks. The process is finalized with Checkpointing, which secures the network. This ensures everything runs smoothly and securely, with validators being key to the whole system.

Polygon, originally Matic Network, was founded in 2017 by Jaynti Kanani, Sandeep Nailwal, and Anurag Arjun.

Polygon has a maximum token supply of 10 billion MATIC tokens, set during its launch in April 2019. As of now, the circulating supply is over 8 billion MATIC.

Polygon aims to create an "internet of blockchains" where any platform, on-chain or off-chain, can interact with Ethereum. Its scaling solution features a 2.1-second block time, allowing for fast and scalable transactions, which is key for DApps to go mainstream. Plus, Polygon is expanding into NFTs and blockchain gaming through Polygon Studios.
