Litecoin uses a Proof of Work (PoW) algorithm called Scrypt to achieve network consensus and validation. Miners solve tough math problems to add new blocks and validate transactions. After a block is validated, it gets added to the blockchain, and all nodes on the network need to agree on the updated version. This keeps the network secure and prevents attacks, as any changes would need a majority of nodes to approve.

Litecoin was created by Charlie Lee, a former Google employee, back in 2011. He took Bitcoin's source code, made some changes, and improved it to make Litecoin work as a secure payment network.

The maximum supply of Litecoin is capped at 84 million LTC. Right now, around 72,775,952 LTC are in circulation.

Litecoin is similar to Bitcoin but with faster transactions. It was one of the first altcoins to fork Bitcoin and create a new crypto. Unlike Bitcoin’s SHA-256 algorithm, Litecoin uses the Scrypt algorithm, which makes it stand out.
