KAS is the native crypto of the Kaspa protocol. It's used to power everything on the network, like covering developer fees and transaction costs.

Kaspa was co-founded in 2016 by Yonatan Sompolinsky and Aviv Zohar. Sompolinsky is a postdoc on the MEV Research Team at Harvard, and Zohar has worked as a researcher and postdoc at Microsoft. Kaspa’s native coin launched in June 2022, hitting an all-time high of $0.00516 in September 2022.

Currently, Kaspa has a total and circulating supply of 13.8 billion KAS.

Kaspa is a decentralized, open-source Layer-1 blockchain that claims to solve the blockchain trilemma—scalability, security, and decentralization—using a unique Proof-of-Work consensus called modified Nakamoto consensus. It features super-fast block confirmations (about one second), high throughput, and decentralized mining. What sets Kaspa apart is its blockDAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) structure, instead of the traditional blockchain. In this setup, blocks are like nodes connected by parent/child relationships. Kaspa says this design brings next-gen scalability, instant confirmations, and high transaction bandwidth while staying decentralized.
