CKB powers the Nervos Network blockchain and represents storage space, with one CKB equal to one byte (Cell) of storage. The network operates using a UTXO model, where data, state, and consensus results are stored in these Cells. CKB is used to pay for on-chain transfers, smart contract executions, and other operations through miner fees. It can also serve as a Store of Value. The CKB supply is split into two parts: the "Base Issue," capped at $33.6 billion, with the supply halving every four years, and the "Tier 2 Issue," which releases $1.344 billion annually.

Nervos Network was co-founded in 2018 by Terry Tai, Kevin Wang, and Daniel Lu. Terry Tai was a core developer at Yunbi and Peatio, and also co-founded Teahour.fm, a popular tech podcast in China. Kevin Wang co-founded Launch School and previously worked at IBM Silicon Valley Lab on enterprise data solutions. Daniel Lu is the former CTO of imToken and Yunbi and co-founder of ruby-china.org. CKB, the native cryptocurrency of Nervos, launched in 2019, and reached an all-time high of $0.04412 in March 2021.
